Margaret E. "Peggy" McGrath, 66, passed away with her family by her side on May 27, 2018 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a hard-fought battle with endometrial cancer.
Born on April 16, 1952 in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Smith) Green. Peggy was an extraordinarily gifted musician, singer and songwriter. As a nature lover, Peggy volunteered her time to lead nature walks and star-watching events at Slingerlands Elementary School where her children attended. She worked as a preschool music teacher for many years before becoming a teacher's aide for children with special needs at St. Anne Institute and Bethlehem Central Middle School. In recent years, Peggy turned her passion for animals into a dog-sitting business, providing loving service to many dogs and their owners throughout the community and beyond.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to many.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Thomas McGrath; her sons: Tommy (Kate) and Bobby (Tali); her siblings: Dorie, Liz (Ed) and David (Katherine); her step-mother, Marilyn; and her many nephews, nieces, and friends. She will also be missed by her Siamese cat, Anniebell.
Visitation will be from 11am to 12:30pm on Saturday, June 2 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, with a memorial service at 12:30pm. A celebration of life will follow at the Elm Avenue Town Park Large Pavilion, 261 Elm Ave, Delmar starting at 2:00pm. Burial will be private.
