ALBANY - Margaret "Peg" K. (Reilly) Marto, 87, of Albany and formerly of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at her residence at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. She was in the company of her children at the time.
Peg was born in County Cavan, Ireland in 1927, the daughter of the late Thomas Ned and Bridget McGovern Reilly. Affectionately referred to as "Baby Thomas Ned", Peg emigrated to the United States in her late twenties. Peg and her beloved late husband Charles Joseph Marto, Sr. pursued the American dream shortly after getting married by starting their successful ventures in the restaurant industry: first on Long Island, "Peggy's Luncheonette" and after relocating to upstate New York, "The Red Baron Tavern". When they moved to Florida on Standish Drive for over 25 years, they enjoyed their friends and neighbors who gathered nightly in the driveway.
More than a successful entrepreneur, Peg will be remembered by many as a devout friend, mother, sister, and wife. She enjoyed nothing more than the company of family and friends, gathered over a meal sharing stories and songs. All were welcomed at her celebrations; if you entered a stranger, you left a friend.
Mom took great comfort in prayer and God's grace and mercy. She is resting peacefully in our heavenly Father's arms.
Peg was a beloved wife of 51 years to Charles Joseph Marto, Sr. She was the proud mother of seven children, Charles J. Marto, Jr., Marge K. Wigger, Thomas P. Marto, Mary (Maureen) T. Marto, Edward J. Marto, James E. Marto, and Michelle Marto. She is survived by her siblings Delia Blainey, Thomas Reilly, and Maureen Reilly; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
