Margaret (Molly) Van Patten, most recently of the Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs, NY passed away peacefully on April 2, 2015.
Molly was the wife of the late Earl Rowland Van Patten. She and Earl raised their family in Woodlawn, Schenectady, NY.
Molly was born in 1916 in Menands, NY. She was the daughter of Herman and Margaret Smith. Molly's mother died at an early age and Molly became the Mother and caregiver for her seven brothers; Herman, Robert, William, Charles, Joseph, John and Leonard Smith.
She was always full of life and fun. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was always joking, laughing and making others laugh. Molly loved to talk on the phone. Most of the time it was a one way conversation, with her doing most of the talking. She kept her mind sharp by doing "See A Word" almost every day.
Molly also loved to watch the New York Yankees and Siena Men's and Women's Basketball. She would discuss the games in great detail with her son Michael. Her love of wildlife showed through as she enjoyed feeding the squirrels, birds, and wild turkeys in her back yard.
Her greatest joy however was children. They would come to see "Gram"/ "Great Gram", and be treated to candies of all sort, that called "Goodies". When leaving her house, she made sure everyone had a "Goody Bag" to take home. Her favorite phrase when people were leaving was, "See You Later Alligator- In A While Crocodile."
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Semle, (Robert) of Charleston, SC; a son Richard Van Patten, (Roberta), of Beaufort, SC; and her son Michael Van Patten, (Judith), of Saratoga Springs, NY. She is also survived by her first Grandchild Phillip Jones, and four Granddaughters, Kristen (Jones) Smith; Bonnie (Van Patten) Leusby; Brittany (Van Patten) Hayes, (Robert); and Kelly (Van Patten) Wagner.
Molly has 10 Great Grandchildren, Chelsea and Matthew Smith; Laura Jones; Heather and Steven Leusby; Philip and Zachary Wagner and Jaxson DeLoreia; Hannah and Alexander Hayes.
She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and very close cousins and neighbors William Sulzer and Jean Loucks, and close friend Lynda Van Patten.
Her family and friends will truly miss her fun and happy ways !!
A private family service will be held in April at the New Comer Funeral Home.
