Schenectady -
Margherita (Peggy) Romanzo, Peggy was born March 11, 1929, and lived 94 beautiful years until her passing on May 4, 2023.
She was the daughter of Pietro and Nunziata D'Amico who immigrated from Bernalda, Italy.
Born and raised in Albany, in her later years she lived at Kingsway Community in Schenectady.
Peggy attended Philip Schuyler High School. She married Edward Romanzo (who predeceased her in 1978) in 1949 and they had four children Michael (Eileen), Edward (Kirsten) Mary Beth (Joseph Brannigan) and Stephen (Joan). After raising her children, Peggy received a nursing degree and worked at St. Peter's Hospital for over 20 years. After the death of her husband, she become a lifelong companion to Robert G. Cooke until his death in 2008. Peggy had seven grandchildren; Michael, Melissa, Gregory, Nicholas, Kathleen, Eddie, and Natalia; 17 great grandchildren. Peggy had many relatives in Italy who she visited numerous times.
Peggy's special gift to all who knew her was her smile, sense of humor, strength, resilience and love of family and friends. Peggy taught us that true richness is not found in material things, rather richness is the love and support of family. All who knew her were enriched by her love and support. She could always be counted on in good times, but more importantly in difficult times. She was a caring and giving wife, mother, daughter, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents; sisters Grace, Donata and Angelina; brother Rocco.
In her final month she was surrounded by the love of her grandchildren Eddie and Natalia, many nieces, nephews, and cousins; a testament to a life well lived. She died peacefully, holding her son Edward's hand with Kirsten, Nancy Snow, Christine Romanzo-Antonio, Donna Ranalli-Brown, and Peter Ranalli providing her love and comfort on her final journey.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Kingsway Community for their warm, loving compassionate care. Staff would tell her they loved her and her reply was always, "I love you more." We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Dominic Rappazzo, Dr. Mary Rappazzo, Dr. George and Mary Romanzo, Steve and Debbie D'Amico and the many family members and friends who provided us love and support during her final days.
