Margo M. Maun

March 31, 1940 — May 2, 2018

Margo Marie Maun, 78, originally of Castleton-on-Hudson, NY, and Guilderland, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a stroke. Her last cognizant moments saw her able to kiss her grandson, son and daughter goodbye. She was attended to by family around the clock during her transition. Per her usual stamina, she spent several days resting peacefully on comfort care measures despite the effects of stroke. Margo had been battling several serious health conditions at the time of her death, and her family is content knowing she is free from the pain she was enduring.

Margo was predeceased by her parents, Vere P. and Mary C. Maun, her sister, Kathryn E. (Lawrence) Doolittle, her brother, Eugene K. (Patricia) Maun, and her grandson, Alexander W. Flores. She leaves behind her daughter, Nora K. (Steven) Flores, her son, Matthew P. Kingsley, grandson David L. Flores, and her three "kids", Rusty, Pepper and Shnookums the kitties.

Margo graduated from Maple Hill High School, in 1958. She was involved in the drama and band clubs, and played the trumpet. She was previously married to Eugene Osl and William Brady. She loved to dance and play cards. She spent the majority of her working-years home making and as a home health aide. She had the most fun being a professional pet sitter, starting a business traveling all over to watch over vacationers' pets. She took that role very seriously. Margo maintained close relationships with some of her high school classmates, and looked forward to their monthly lunches to gather and talk. Even when her health declined, the ladies would go to visit her. She was so fortunate to have had her best friend of 74 years, Carol Van Buren, at her bedside before her death. Carol recalled stories of Margo's sassy antics as a child, including putting a nail under the bus driver's tire. Margo always had a little twinkle in her eye when recalling the good old days.

Margo fit the bill of the "crazy cat lady", and took that role whole-heartedly. Over the years, she provided a home for many feline friends. She dedicated her home and time to minding her crew. She had such enjoyment from all of the rescue and feral cats she helped, and never spent a moment on the sofa without a cat on her lap. She also loved her Irish heritage, surrounding herself in Irish décor, with shamrocks and ivy plants throughout the house. Her favorite experience was a trip to Ireland that Kathryn gifted her. She loved to tell the stories of her pub-crawling with new friends on the tour, the greenery and spirit of the Irish Isle. In these later years, she was able to travel with her daughter and friends on a cruise to Bermuda, and to see her older brother Gene in Seattle, WA. Most recently, she enjoyed as much time as possible with her grandson. She celebrated her 78th birthday with family and friends just 4 weeks before her death. Margo was a unique soul, and there will certainly be an unfamiliar silence in her absence.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of C4 at AMCH for their kind and respectful care of Margo during her comfort measures stay. Additionally, Margo was very thankful for the concern of her primary doctor's nurse, Lori Ody, who helped her with ensuring she was comfortable and safe to be able to stay in her home.
