Albany – Marguerite (Griffin) Hallenbeck, 84, died peacefully on September 4, 2008 at the Teresian House in Albany.
Born on March 27, 1924, Marguerite was the third of five children born to John Patrick Griffin and Katherine Williams Griffin. She was educated in the Albany City schools and graduated in 1942 from Albany High School. Maggie was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady during WW II and it was then that she met and married Robert P. Hallenbeck of Amsterdam in 1944.
Mrs. Hallenbeck raised her family of three sons and a daughter in the 1950's and 60's before returning to the workplace as an office manager and secretary for several companies. Eventually she entered the real estate field as a salesperson for Veronica Lynch Inc. and Welbourne and Purdy Inc. In 1982 she earned her real estate brokers license.
Marguerite is survived by her sons Robert (Dorinda) of Philadelphia, Willam (Joanne) of Niskayuna, James (Gail) of San Jose, California, and her daughter Mary of Schenectady. She is also survived by grandchildren; Leah Olson and Chris Hallenbeck of Niskayuna and R.P. and Jessica Hallenbeck of Philadelphia as well as two great-grandsons; William and Wesley Olson of Niskayuna. She also leaves behind two sisters Kathlyn Hewig and Virginia McCall of Albany.
Maggie is predeceased by her parents, her brother John Griffin and her sister Gloria Kelley.
The funeral service will be held 5:00 pm Sunday September 7, 2008 at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.).
