Albany- Marguerite "Peggy" Simons passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 25, 2018.
She was born in Lynn, MA, on April 19, 1923, a daughter of the late Raymond and Isabelle Leger Moriarty. Peggy was raised in Locust Valley, Long Island, graduating from Glen Cove High School and after lived in Oyster Bay and Bayville. She married the late John J. Simons on October 12, 1944 while he was stationed in California; they were married 56 years.
Peggy was a loving mother to five children, and later in life was a secretary in the Locust Valley and Oyster Bay School Districts. She was a member of St. Gertrude's congregation for most of her life. Peggy was an active person who enjoyed walking, skating, swimming and was an avid reader. She spent the last four years in Westmere. Peggy was a down to earth, kind hearted and generous person who was beloved by all who met her.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Jean Totaro; her children, Marsha Arnold (Bill), Sandra Galluzzo (Al), John R. "Jay" Simons, Pat Boyagian (Dennis) and Debra Noto (Joe); grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Eileen and Raymond.
Calling hours will be held starting at 6pm, with a memorial service on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, 12205. A memorial Mass and burial will be held at a later date in the Spring on Long Island.
