ALBANY – Maria Arias died peacefully at her home and joined the Lord on December 17, 2006 at the age of 88. She was born in Cabaiguan, Las Villas, Cuba and came to the United States in early 1959, leaving Castro's Regime behind and looking for political and economic security for her family. She came to New York City where she worked as a seamstress designer. In 1980, she moved to Miami, FL. She came back to Albany where she resided for the past five years. She was the beloved wife of the late Fernando P, Arias. Maria is the devoted mother of Matilde E. Arias, caring surrogate mother of Cecilia N. Sanz and surrogate grandmother of Vincent O. Muniz. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Funeral services and burial will be private at Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes, FL. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in her name be made to Centro Civico Hispanoamericano, Inc., 220 Green St., Albany, NY 12202.
