Albany---- Maria Antonietta Barbalace, age 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on June 20, 2018.
Maria was born in Rosarno, Reggio Calabria, Italy. The daughter of the late Antonino Greco and Giuseppa Scriva.
Maria came to the United States in 1949. She and her husband, Dominick, worked hard to have the best life they could in a new country. Soon after, she paved the way for her siblings to join her here as well. Due to their hard work and perseverance, the roots of our family were firmly planted here in the USA. The family has continued to grow and blossom over the years. Maria was truly our family matriarch and we will be forever grateful.
She enjoyed traveling to Florida during the summers with her husband, children, and grandchildren to spend time on the beach. Maria loved all her family and was truly happy being surrounded by them. She loved attending family celebrations. She always had a smile, kind word, and a good laugh with everyone. Her presence will be missed by all.
Maria was the wife of the late Dominick Barbalace whom she married on January 16, 1949; mother of Frank, Rose (late John) Smith, Josephine (Frederic) Slover, and Tony; grandmother of Anthony (Cara) Smith, J. Travis (Tara) Smith, Marie Barbalace, Dominick Barbalace, Regina (Keith) Zobel, and David (Destiny) Slover; great-grandmother of Dominick, Michael, Della, David, Ryan, Milan, Keith, Gianna, Stella, Liam, Catherine, and Scarlett; sister of Giuseppe (Maria) and Domenico (Maria).
