Maria Cangemi

ALBANY- Maria Cangemi, age 93, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital on October 22, 2022.

She was born in Adrano, Sicily, daughter of the late Nunzio and Pietra Catania.

Maria came to the U.S. in 1955 via the US Constitution and worked at JD Beers Baseball factory, Albany Billiards, Freihofer's Bakery and Albany School District.

She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards with the ladies, cooking and baking, gardening and sewing. There was nothing that Maria could not do.

She was predeceased by her husband Mario Cangemi in 2005.

Maria is survived by her children: Frank Cangemi (Clelia), Agatina Simeone (Antonio) and Nunzio Cangemi (Mary); siblings: Concetta Boeme (Giuseppe), Giovanni Catatania (Maria) and Agatina DiMarzo (Alfio); grandchildren: Mario (Kim), Gianna Cangemi, Tony Simeone (Katarina), Maria Edwards (Brian), Agatina Commisso (Sal), Nicole Paonessa (Tony) and Mary Cangemi. Also survived by 15 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, Beckham Blair and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Carmen Giuliano and the staff of the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospice for their care given to Maria.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Friday October 28, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Avenue, Albany, NY 12203. All are invited to attend her funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. The services may be viewed live online at ctkparishny.org.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
