ROTTERDAM – Maria L. Elwell "Marilou" passed away peacefully at her home in the evening of September 22nd, 2020.
She was born April 6th, 1945 to the late Clifford and Luisa Wood. She was predeceased by her brother, Clifford G. Wood and her son, Robert C. Elwell.
She attended SUNY Oneonta to achieve a degree in English.
Maria married the late Robert D. Elwell on July 9th, 1964 and raised two children together.
She worked various jobs, including teaching English at Draper High School, sales at the Singer Sewing Store and becoming a 911 dispatcher for the City of Schenectady.
She cherished her time with her grandchildren, from doing the Time Warp with her oldest grandchild, to supporting the others at football, softball, and wrestling matches. She loved sewing, knitting, watching sports on TV and live events. Maria loved her time spent with her family and her dogs.
Maria leaves behind a daughter, Robin (David) Elwell; five grandchildren: Robert B. (Kayleigh) Elwell, Shane Elwell, Matthew (Meg) Patterson, Zachary (Jamie) Patterson and Maria (Nicholas) Patterson; two great granddaughters: Anna-Belle Oksa and Izabelle Oksa. Also survived by three sisters, a brother and a plethora of nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Due to Covid-19 – no services will be held at this time but a celebration of life will be held later.
The family sends a special thanks to Hospice for their great care and compassion they expressed during their time of need for Maria.
