Latham - Maria Teresa Pereyra, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 30th, 1932, in Bogota Colombia, Maria grew up the youngest of 12 children, and relocated to the United States in 1963. A devout Catholic, she was a Eucharistic minister for St Pius X Church in Loudonville, and a co member of The Sisters of Mercy for many years. She made pilgrimages to Medjugorje, Bosnia and the Vatican in 2001. She happily spent most of her days as a homemaker, but also had many adventures with her favorites including owning a restaurant and serving as a caregiver to the elderly in the 1990s.
Married for 51 years, Maria is survived by her husband, Carlos J Pereyra, and her 3 children, Maria Teresa Ibanez, Carlos W Pereyra, and Patricia Alvarez. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Maria Teresa, Monica (Jacob), David (Rachael), Melina, Alex, and Natalia, as well as her great grandchildren Isabelle, Tristan, Aiden, and Luciano, and many nieces and nephews.
Maria is predeceased by her parents Emilio and Maria Teresa Tafur, her brothers and sisters, and her grandson Nikolas.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday December 30, 2022 at 9:40 am at St Pius X Church, 23 Crumite Road, Loudonville NY 12211. Interment will follow the service at St Agnes Cemetery, Menands following Mass.
Donations can be made in Maria's honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
