COLONIE- Sartorio, Maria Rose, passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, September 14, 2014.
She was predeceased by her father, Mario Sebastiano Sartorio, mother, Caterina LoPresti Sartorio, and brother, Anthony Sartorio.
She is survived by her children; Joseph Anthony (Teresa Husson) Urso III, Annmarie (Steven Mann) Urso, and Giocchino Jack Urso; grandchildren; Christopher (Candace) Rosa and Rachel (Tyler) Bennett; and great-granddaughter Emma Maria Rosa. She is also survived by her sister, Nina Sasser and nieces and nephews. Maria was especially thankful for the support provided by Teresa Husson, whom she regarded as a daughter.
Maria was born January 25, 1936, in San Piero Patti, Sicily, Italy. After World War II, Maria and her family moved to Whitehall, NY. As a young woman, she moved to Albany in the 1950s where she worked as a beautician. Following her divorce in the 1970s, Maria started her own cleaning company, M.U.S. Cleaning Services, which served business offices, homes, and restaurants. Maria's dream, however, was to get back to her love of the land and animals, so in 1985 she moved to Delhi, NY, where she began a new career as a livestock manager. Maria later worked as a private caretaker, which she continued until her retirement in 2002.
Following her retirement, Maria shared homes with her brother Anthony Sartorio in Miami, FL; her sister Nina Sasser in Chicopee, MA; and with each of her children. A strong-hearted woman who loved her family, Maria was beloved for both her honesty and humor.
In accordance with her last wishes, no memorial services will be held at this time.
