Marianne "Marnie" Everts Sheppard, 89, of Holyrood House in Scotia, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon due to complications following surgery. Marnie was born, along with her twin sister Mary on July 18, 1924, in Corning, New York. Marnie and her twin moved from the family farm in Caton, NY to Utica during World War II, where she met her husband, Fredric. They settled in Colonie Village (Tanglewood) and raised their family. As a neighborhood mom, Mrs. Sheppard was liked and respected by her children's friends. Very proud of her heritage, she descended from hard working early American colonial family that provided service to our country in both difficult and good times, and contributed greatly to the area around Seneca Lake.
Marnie was predeceased by her beloved twin sister, Mary Elizabeth on May 26, 2014; her sister Dort; her brothers Sonny, David and Charlie; and parents, Mary and Glenn Harris.
Marnie gave to many non-profit organizations, though she had little herself. She was a good person and loved all things, especially animals in need of care. Her compassion was generous, exceeded only be the love she had for her family. She felt the only thing she did with her life was raise six children, and she was proud of that accomplishment.
She is survived by her children; F. David (Vicki), Mary, John, Kimarie, Peter (Suzanne) and Alan, as well as eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and her sister, Margaret "Peg" Harris Flower, of East Haven, CT., who is loved enormously.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Albany Medical Center for all of the care and compassion given to Marnie.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY 12204 or to Bethesda House of Schenectady 834 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12307 in Marnie's memory.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
