Marie A. Guarino

CLIFTON PARK - Marie A. Guarino, 89, passed away on Sunday night, August 3, 2014, peacefully in her sleep at home. She was the third child of Louis and Anna Kochiss of Stratford, CT including brothers Louis and John, and sister Cecilia Burdett. Marie was a devoted Catholic and loving mother survived by her children George, Anne, David, James, Gene, John, and Christine, 18 grandchilden, 1 great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews, all living and healthy. She had survived her late husband Eugene (May 10, 1922 – May 22, 1994.) Marie graduated from Russell Sage College with Bachelors in Nursing, and received her Masters from NYU. She taught many nurses both at Plattsburgh State University in the 1950's and at Memorial Hospital in Albany during the 1970-80's.

Marie was a loving mother and homemaker and enjoyed creating things from foods to arts and crafts. She loved to serve a cold breakfast of Slovakian meats and cheeses on Easter morning, and she made some mean donut holes, toll house cookies, root beer floats, frozen peach sherbet, and hot buttered cinnamon toast; what's not to love? She always encouraged the creative and entrepreneurial activities of her children, from selling hot dogs to owning Nursing Homes. She loved to go "Sunday" driving any day, anywhere. She was an excellent card player and especially enjoyed bridge with the groups at the Malta Fire Department and the Clifton Park Senior Center. Canasta was always played at home, rules and wagers varied. She loved watching Johnny Carson, Lawrence Welk, Martha Stewart, and Jeopardy.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass will be on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, followed by a light reception.
