LOUDONVILLE- Marie C. Carey, 73, of Loudonville, passed away on Easter Sunday April 8, 2012 at Albany Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Troy and was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Julia R. Shannon. Marie was a 1959 graduate of Catholic Central High School and a 1963 graduate of St. Peters Hospital, School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, Marie had worked for Samaritan Hospital and more recently with South Colonie Central School District where she also served as CSEA unit President before retiring in 1986. Marie enjoyed playing golf and spent many winters in Lake Ashton Florida. Marie will be remembered for her proud Irish heritage, her quick wit and her fierce independence.
She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband John "Jack" M. Carey. Marie is the beloved mother of Christopher J. (Susan) Carey of Colonie, Lisa M. Carey of Waterford, Michael S. (Gina) Carey of Rock Hill, SC and Beth Ann Carey (Jerry) Casabonne of Latham. She is the sister of Ann Shannon of Winter Haven FL. Marie is the loving companion of Robert Sereikis. She is the cherished grandmother of Jaime Michelucci, Andrew DeCapria, Taylor, Christopher and Nicholas Carey, Sophia and Jack Casabonne. Great grandmother of Jillian Michelucci. Also survived by longtime family friend, Felicia Casabonne.
Funeral services will be Friday morning at 10:00 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Memory Gardens.
