Marie Eliza Edwards, 97, entered into eternal life on June 18, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in St.Thomas, Virgin Islands to Edward Clinton and Nellie Eliza Simmons. The family relocated to Harlem, New York. As a young girl she attended All Souls Episcopal Church where she sang in the Choir and she went on to become a Sunday School teacher.
Marie graduated from Central Needle Trades High School, now known as High School of Fashion Industries. She was a gifted seamstress. Shelly's prom dress and Debbie's wedding gown were amongst her greatest designs.
Marie married Theodore Edwards in 1960 and they raised their family in St. Albans, New York until moving to Westbury, Long Island in 1970. After Teddy's death in 1985 Marie moved to Fordham Hill Coop in the Bronx, where she was a member of The Committee of Elders. She also volunteered as a foster grandmother in the Children's Ward at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
Marie and Teddy traveled extensively with the 369th Veteran's Association and she continued to travel whenever her military children were stationed abroad.
At the age of 82 she was moved (kicking and screaming) to Albany, New York where she resided at Beltrone Living Center and she became the 2nd Vice President of the Residents Association. She maintained her active lifestyle by teaching her many new friends various card games such as Pokeno and Phase 10.
Marie loved life and family was everything to her. She was friendly, always welcoming and had a tremendous faith. She united with Friendship Baptist Church and later attended Union Missionary Baptist Church.
Marie was the beloved wife of the late Theodore Edwards. She was the devoted mother to Deborah Moore, Shelly (McCell) Longmire, Peter (Joyce) Watterson, Randella (Eric) Elston, Rhea (Deborah) Edwards, Alexis Pearson and the late Barbara Koger and Corrine Milner. She was the matriarch of five generations and will be mourned by not only her children, but her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition, her beloved Godson, Brian Stennett, her special daughters Colleen Gibson, Anita Keen, Sandy Walker and Dee Dew. She will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews and numerous friends
Marie was always there to give love, guidance, advice and joy. We are asking at this time not to have heavy hearts but understand that Marie would want you to show joy, share great stories and rejoice while reflecting on the lifetime that she gave to all of us. She has gone on to meet Our Heavenly Father, her husband, her parents, her Sisters and Brothers, a host of family members and beloved friends
