Marie C. Filkins

Marie Crystal Filkins, 38, entered into eternal rest on January 21, 2025, following a long battle with drug addiction.

Born March 13, 1986 in Albany, Marie was the daughter of Earl Filkins and the late Laurie Wills.

Marie was a graduate of Greenville High School, where she made many friends due to her shining personality, quick wit, beautiful smile, and aura. After graduation, Marie moved to Albany, where she worked for the Dept. of General Services, Jiffy Lube and Valvoline. Sometime after the birth of her second child, Marie became lost in the world of addiction, unfortunately losing that battle on January 21, 2025. Despite her addiction, she will forever be remembered for her beautiful soul.

In addition to her mother, Laurie Wills, Marie was predeceased by her brother, Earl “EJ” Filkins Jr., grandmother, Jeanne Aveyard; grandfather, Michael Cerrone; uncle, Michael “Head” Filkins; and nephew, Jace Filkins.

Marie is survived by her children, Lauren McElroy and Julian Smarro; father, Earl Filkins Sr. (Kathy); sister, Michelle Filkins; brothers, Christopher Glass (Tara), Kyle Morreale, Joshua Morreale (Chantel), and Brandon Morreale (Erin); great-aunt, Marie Ryan; cousins, Missy Dubuque and Holly Brown; best family friend, Jeff Hunt (Maggie); and many aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to your local addiction centers.
