SCHENECTADY - Marie Mashuta, 96, born June 30, 1917 in Schenectady, NY left this earth to be with her husband, John, on Thursday, November 21, 2014 from her new home in Chula Vista, CA.
Marie was educated in the Schenectady School System and worked at Ellis Hospital, then G.E. Lena Wolfman's Children's Shop and then retired from Fay's Drug in August 1995 after 23 years of service. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart St. Columba Church and St. Joseph's Church.
Marie is survived by two daughters, Patricia Mashuta of Chula Vista, CA and Dolores (Hank) Grimmick of San Ramon, CA; three grandchildren, Kathy Powers of Chula Vista, CA, Jim Powers (Katie) Tucson, AZ and Henry Todd (Jamel) Grimmick Cape Coral, FL; her loving great grandchildren, Britnee Marie Powers, T.J. Rivera-Powers and Olivia Lena Rivera-Powers all of Tucson, AZ, and Guendlynn Marie, Gillian Margaret and Henry John Grimmick all of Cape Coral, FL; her two sisters, Catherine (Duilio) DiCocco, Dolores (Gerald) Relyea both of Schenectady, NY and sister-in-law, Mary (Walt) Mashuta of the Villages, FL as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and John Gregorie; her wonderful husband, John Mashuta; two brothers, William and John Gregorie and her sisters, Helen Paczkowski, Florence Crandall, Rosemary Davis, Esther DiSalvatore and Dorothy Valerio.
Marie lived with her daughter, Pat in Schenectady until June of this year when they moved to Chula Vista, CA to be closer to family.
Some of Marie's greatest pleasures were family dinners that she enjoyed preparing. In her last few months she gained much pleasure visiting Sea World with her great grandchildren, watching them swim in the Pacific Ocean while she enjoyed the sunshine and beach sand.
Marie's family thanks all the family members and friends for the many kindnesses shown to her especially the last years after John passed.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Schenectady.
