Schenectady- Marie A. Rowe, 87, passed away peacefully at a local Long Term Care Facility on Friday, April 8, 2022, with her loving daughters by her side. She was the daughter of the late Honora Gordineer and Charles Leaderach. Her early years growing up were in Peekskill, New York then the family moved to Rotterdam where she lived, loved, thrived, and raised her family for over 80 years.
Marie was the devoted wife to the late
James A. Rowe. They were married 58 years.
Marie is survived by her children, Tina Williams, Tamie Filkins, Timothy Rowe, and Todd Rowe, her five grandchildren, Christopher Rowe and Megan, Sara, Jacklyn, and Jenna Williams. Marie also survived by her loving niece, Elizabeth "Betty" Santabarbara. She and Betty grew up more like sisters and shared an incredibly special bond with memories that shaped them both.
Marie, as a lifelong resident of Rotterdam, New York graduated Draper High School then began her career as a bookkeeper working for many local businesses including the Jewish Community Center and the late accountant, Peter O'Neil.
Marie was known to be strong willed, independent and had a fiery Irish temper. When her 'Irish was up' you knew to RUN! Otherwise, she was kind, unconditionally helpful, generous, loving, a little stubborn, always grateful, extremely creative and could figure out about anything!
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She often sat on the yard swing with Jim, her late husband, and their dog Pepper. They would feed the birds and the squirrels together and enjoyed the beautiful flower gardens Marie spent hours tending to. Naming the cloud shapes was a favorite pastime with her grandchildren. When not on the swing, Marie also enjoyed reading a good romance novel with a cup of coffee beside her.
Our fondest memories include painting ceramics with Mimi, gardening time with her or going to see Lilo & Stitch at the movie theater watching her and Poppy laugh throughout the show. Marie loved her Angels, her family, and her dog Pepper.
Dementia may have altered her memories however our memories of her will be cherished forever. So much of Marie "Mimi" Rowe will live on in her children and grandchildren. We love and miss you!
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 14, 2022, for Marie and James Rowe and their beloved best friend, Pepper in Altamont, New York for immediate family.
