Watervliet- Marie Elizabeth Conlen Strack, 75 years young, passed away quietly after a short stay at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. Marie was a long time resident of Watervliet.
As a child Marie attended Sacred Heart of Mary School in Watervliet and graduated from Shaker High School. During her high school years she worked at J.C. Penny in Latham. Following her graduation she was employed at Cluette Peabody until her marriage. She then raised her two children Mary-Christine and Richard who were the joy of her life. Upon earning her Cosmetology license, she enjoyed success working in the beauty salon at the Stanley store and then moving to work at Joseph's Beauty Salon, both in Troy She ended her working years at Russell Sage College where she was employed for nearly 20 years. Her Wednesday afternoons deliveries of homemade cookies ensured her popularity with many of the student there. This, coupled with her kindness and caring for the students, soon made her a favorite on campus.
Marie was very generous and active with her church, Faith and Love Fellowship, in East Greenbush as well as supporting other charities. During her retirement years she was an active participant helping with the church run Food Pantry and Bible study classes. Her skills as a cook and baker earned her respect at many church sponsored activities. She was a generous and kind person with great concern for the less fortunate. She also enjoyed a great sense of humor and was always ready for a good laugh or adventure.
Marie is survived by her daughter, Mary Christine Stevenson of Willsboro, NY, her grand-daughter Hailey Strack of Guilderland, her sister Patricia Conlen Maychack of Troy, and her brother John Conlen and his wife Lucretia of Halfmoon and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Frank E and Lillian McWhinnie Conlen, her son, Richard L. Strack III and two brothers Frank and Joseph.
Friends may call at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY on Friday, June 29th from 1:00 PM- 2:00pm. A service will follow at 2:00PM with the interment to follow at St. Patrick's cemetery in Watervliet.
