LATHAM – Marietta Keenan, 88, a lifelong resident of Rockaway Beach, Queens, passed away on Friday evening at Albany Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in St. Joseph's Hospital in Far Rockaway, Marietta was the daughter of the late Jacob Von Weisenstein and Marietta Frizzell. She was a telephone operator with The New York Telephone Company in New York City for over thirty years, retiring in 1974. Growing up by the ocean, Marietta loved spending her free time at the beach and became an accomplished swimmer. She enjoyed vacationing in the Adirondacks at Brant Lake with her family and friends for many years. She took great delight in the accomplishments of her cherished grandchildren.
Marietta was predeceased by her husband Thomas A. Keenan in 1994. She is the beloved mother of Carol (Din) Cahill, Ellen (Bob) McNamara and Diane (Jim) Ferguson. She is the sister of Suzanne Swanson and the late William Von Weinsenstein and Patty Von Weisenstein. Marietta is the loving grandmother of Danny and Kristen Cahill, Bobby and Ashley McNamara and Jimmy and Christopher Ferguson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Funeral services will be on Wednesday in Rockaway Beach, Queens.
