GANSEVOORT – Marilyn D. Murphy, 66, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Albany and lived in the Albany area for most of her life, living for a brief period on Hilton Head Island, SC. Marilyn was a graduate of Russell Sage College. She retired as a Senior Corrections Counselor with the New York State Dept. of Corrections after 30 years of service. Marilyn is the beloved daughter of Margaret Galeo and the late Jerome Galeo. She is the loving and cherished wife of 24 years to James Murphy. She is the sister of Elaine Keenan of Delmar, Joyce Currier of Binghamton and Karen Craig of Buffalo. Marilyn is the stepmother of Jennifer Mason of Hyde Park. She is the grandmother of Kathryn and Nicholas Mungo of Hyde Park and Alyssa Murphy of Poughkeepsie. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved dog, "Black Jack". Marilyn's family would like to thank the staff of New York Oncology Hematology at Albany Medical Center Hospital for their kindness, support and care during her illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A calling hour will precede the service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 in memory of Marilyn D. Murphy.
