Marilyn was joyfully reunited with her daughter Courtney on August 12, 2024 and leaves behind George, her husband of more than 40 years.
Frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia ravaged Marilyn over the past several years leaving her family to shed countless tears as the witty woman she was withered before their eyes. Her reunion with Courtney brings a close to the mourning of her family with her recent, rapid descent.
Each of us will remember Marilyn in our own way - whether her wit or generosity. Marilyn never met a kitty cat or puppy dog that she didn’t try to spoil. She may have even befriended a few squirrels along the way. Marilyn was a frequent visitor to Disney World in Florida and enjoyed traveling. She was also a dedicated employee for the State of New York.
Daughter to Joseph and Norma Canty, Marilyn was the middle of five children. Born and raised in nearby Waterford, Marilyn was little sister to Linda and Joey, while serving as big sister to Maureen and David. A graduate of Waterford-Halfmoon high school, Marilyn then graduated with her Bachelor's degree before embarking on her career, marriage, and motherhood. Her parents predeceased Marilyn, while George survives her. Along with Courtney, Marilyn reunites with her big brother Joey. Her siblings survive her, along with her sister-in-law, Darla. She also leaves behind her nephew, Noah, and her nieces, Stephanie and Cassandra.
Respecting Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no services and internment will be in Memory Gardens with her daughter. Special recognition and thanks to the nurses and aides at the Eddy Village Green, building 21, for their excellent care and to the hospice team for their guidance and support.
