Marilyn Ann Ritchie

July 16, 1942 — August 3, 2020

Marilyn Ann Ritchie passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2020, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Marilyn Ann, née Hughes was born July 16, 1942, in Westerleigh, Staten Island, NY, beloved wife of the late James Thomas Ritchie Jr. The couple was married on September 16, 1965.

She was the daughter of the late Peter and Madeline Hughes (Batz) and was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and St. Peter's Girls High School in 1960. She is predeceased by her brother Peter F. Hughes and survived by her treasured sister Judith Dugan (Hughes) married to the late Robert Dugan of State College, PA. As Irish twins, they were thick as thieves and enjoyed spending precious time together reminiscing.

Marilyn is survived by her three children Tara Christine Trezza (Ritchie) of New Providence, NJ married to Thomas Jay Trezza; James Thomas Ritchie III married to Jenifre (Placente) of Tottenville, Staten Island, NY and Amy Elizabeth Desjardins (Ritchie) married to Robert L. Desjardins Jr. of Niskayuna, NY.

She was a devoted grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren, Amanda Marie Ritchie, Casey Ann Trezza, Ryan Thomas Trezza, Kaylee Nicole Ritchie, Patrick John Trezza, and Connor James Desjardins. Marilyn also cherished time with her brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Mary Jezior, and Thomas and Barbara Hughes, and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marilyn's special bond with her St. Peter's classmates continued throughout her life and those friendships remain to this day. Growing up, Marilyn spent most summers with her cousins at a wonderful childhood cabin in Dingmans Ferry, PA built by her father and uncles. She always spoke about swimming in the waterfalls which held a special place in her heart.

James, a New York City Police Officer, and Marilyn raised their three children on Staten Island. Marilyn, a graduate of Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, went on to a long career in her favorite place - New York City. Traveling by the Staten Island Ferry she worked at the NYPD Police Academy for a few years until finally moving onto the trading floor at UBS Securities until her retirement in 1999.

Marilyn had a gift for getting family and friends together in her backyard swimming pool or down at the Jersey Shore. Everyone was always welcome. Marilyn was known for her generosity and warm loving heart. James and Marilyn enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore so much they chose to retire there in 2006 in Waretown, NJ. They also loved vacationing in Walt Disney World together as a winter getaway.

Marilyn will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, most of whom she considered family. Above all, she loved her grandchildren, and nothing made her happier than spending time with them swimming in her pool, going to Pt. Pleasant's boardwalk, and at sporting events being their biggest fan.

A mass celebrating Marilyn's life will be held on Saturday, August 8th, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 111 South Ave, New Providence, NJ 07974
