ALBANY – Mario Cangemi, 83, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mario was born on May 26, 1921 in Adrano, Catania, Sicily to the late Mario and Agatina Bolla Cangemi. He served in the Italian Army during WWII. Mario married Maria Catania in Sicily on February 24, 1945 and in 1955 he brought his family to the United States.
Mario was a construction worker for Local 190 in Albany for over 30 years. He loved his garden, especially picking the tomatoes he grew and loved to travel. Mario put laughter and a smile in everyone he knew and cherished his family.
Mario is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria Cangemi of Albany; his beloved children, Frank (Clelia Iaia) Cangemi of Colonie, Agatina (Antonio) Simeone of Albany and Nunzio (Mary) Cangemi of Rensselaer and his daughter-in-law Vickie Cangemi of Albany. He is the cherished grandfather of Mario and Jennifer Cangemi, Tony Simeone, Maria (Brian) Edwards and Tina Simeone and Nicole (Steve) Cangemi-Mellor and Mary Cangemi, great grandfather of Antonia and Brianna Edwards and his dog/buddy, Bianco. He is also survived by 3 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Giacinto Cangemi, Alfino Cangemi and Vito Bolla and 2 sisters, Agatina Cangemi and Navica Agatina Bolla.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 8:00 at the New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-South of Central Ave.) then to Holy Cross Church, Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Interment at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
