COLONIE, NY – Marjorie A. Kirby of Colonie, died peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at her home, after a short illness.
She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Marion Wertman, wife of the late William F. Kirby and sister of the late Mary Adam Kirby, Jon Kirby and James Kirby.
Marjorie was a former committee woman and Secretary of the Colonie Democratic Committee. Marjorie loved doing Topiary. She was not only an artist but a horticulturist and was known as the "Flower Lady" of Colonie for 50 years. People would stop at her home to see the beauty of her creations. Marjorie would like to thank her many nieces, nephew and friends for their love and support during her illness: Susan MacDonald of Clinton, NY, Barbara and George Duell of East Berne, Nancy and Jerry Hauprich of Virginia and Barbara Early of Virginia; Virginia Duell of Rensselaer; Heather Duell of North Carolina; friends, Sr. Mary Clara of St. Colman's Home, Watervliet, Ellie Lewis of Colonie, Mary Casey of Phoenix, AZ, Jeanette Prokrym-George, Eleanor Ebere, Carmen Satin, Eileen Swartz, Marylyn Oliver, Heather and Bruce Baird, Brenda Wright all of Colonie, Holly and Jim Porcard of Duanesburg, and Ryan Kirker of East Berne.
What a delightful life Marjorie had. Not only did she leave generous donations to relatives and friends, but also to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Community Hospice of Albany. Marjorie wanted to thank Daniel Lane, Shirley Street, Gail Karlosky, Nettie Marcella, Judy Rash and all of Community Hospice of Albany for their help and wonderful care of Marjorie at her home.
