Marjorie Smith

COLONIE-Marjorie L. Smith, 89, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, NY. She was born in Dudley, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Delphis and Grace (Hall) LaChapelle.

Marjorie was hired as deputy clerk for the Village of Colonie in 1966. She served in the administration of three village mayors and retired as the village clerk in 1983. Marjorie was also a devoted wife, homemaker and caregiver. She was dedicated to raising her three children in a home filled with love and warmth. Marjorie enjoyed summer vacations with her family in Vergennes, Vermont and loved to visit the rocky coast of Southern Maine. She will be dearly missed.

Marjorie was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph D. Smith Sr. She is the beloved mother of Joseph D. Smith Jr. (Nancy Iida), Gary Smith and Lynne (William) Shea. She is the sister of Blanche Weininger and the late Richard LaChapelle, Angeline Bradley and Madlyne Miller. Marjorie is also survived by many cherished grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Funeral services will be Monday, October 2, 2017 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to The Village of Colonie Senior Citizens Center, 2 Thunder Road, Albany, NY 12205.
