GUILDERLAND CENTER - Mark (Mac) Chase, 53, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010 at his home with family by his side. Mark had a short but incredibly brave battle with cancer.
Mark was born in Schenectady to Geraldine (Southard) Chase and the late Harry Chase. In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his adoring wife, Gretchen Smith-Chase, his daughter Amanda Chase; his granddaughters, Ariana and Giavana; his sister, Linda Califano; his brother, Larry (Lorraine) Chase; his niece, Carrie Carney, and his nephew, David Chase. He was predeceased by his niece Kelly Jo Chase.
Mark spent summers in Prattsville with his grandparents, fishing, raising hell and creating life long friendships. He graduated from Linton High in Schenectady, where he enjoyed playing a greaser in his custom 57 Chevy.
Mark worked for three generations of the Spraragen family at American Electric, where he was the manager and a devoted employee for 33 years. When Mark wasn't working he enjoyed riding his Harley, chillin in the barn, doing yard work and taking trips to the Cape.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Memory's Garden at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Mark (Papa), memorial contributions may be made to "The Benefit of Mark Chase", Trustco Bank, Attn: Christina Mei, 1410 Curry Road, Schenectady, NY 12306, to assist his granddaughters (Ariana and Giavana) with their college education.
