BALLSTON SPA – Mark K. Hughes, 38, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 after a tragic accident in New York City. Born in Albany, he was the son of David (Marcia Bobik) Hughes of Scotia and Cindy (Barnes) Halley of Schenectady.
Mark worked for Precision Concrete Pumping for 10 years. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #106. Mark was a Sportsman Racer, known to many by the name of "Hughesey." He had a need for speed and enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiles and doing wheelies. Mark also enjoyed vacationing with his wife, Becca. He touched the lives of many and everyone who encountered him absolutely loved him. Mark was a gentleman and formed the closest bonds with his "brothers" who walked with him through life.
Mark was predeceased by his grandparents, Elaine "Nain" (Kenific) Hughes, Philip "Poppy" Barnes, Sr., and Evelyn "Nanny" (Hine) Barnes.
Along with his parents, Mark will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 2 months, Becca (Madia) Hughes; sisters Amy (Michael) Ovitt of Grafton and Megan E. Hughes of Watervliet; grandfather James "Taid" Hughes; father and mother-in-law Frank and Susan Madia of Schenectady; brother-in-law Adam Madia of Rotterdam; sister-in-law Rachel Madia of Rotterdam; nieces and nephews Rickey Dickinson, III, Isabella Ovitt and David Ovitt of Grafton, Ayden Madia of Rotterdam and Derrick McGrew, Jr. of Ballston Spa, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Autism Society of the Greater Capital Region, New York, 101 State Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 in Mark's name.
