Mark Stephen Wielt of Altamont, NY passed away at the age of 66 at Ellis Hospital on October 15, 2021. Mark, who was known to many as Skip, was born on June 2, 1955 in Niskayuna, NY to Royal (Bucky) Wielt and Helen Evelyn Wielt (both deceased).
He attended Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake schools for many years and graduated from South Colonie High School in 1973. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force where he served on active duty, flying missions to Vietnam as C-5 Galaxy Crew Chief until January of 1975. After being honorably discharged, he was a long – time employee of William M. Larned and Sons, Inc. Mark continued to serve with the NY State Air National Guard in the 109 AW from 1975 to 1993 as a C-130 and C-130D (Ski Equipped) Flight Engineer, flying extensively in the Arctic and Greenland.
Mark was passionate about general aviation and was an avid private pilot. He attended many fly-ins across the country and was always willing to help his fellow flyers with his knowledge and time. He was an excellent mechanic and craftsman and enjoyed restoring classic old planes like his PA-18 Super Cub. He was an active member of the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Duanesburg.
Mark is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Terry (John) King of Mechanicsburg, PA and Mrs. Christine (Dale) Meyer of Altamont, NY, as well as three nieces, two nephews and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hour on Tuesday October 26, 2021 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Princetown Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 3662 Giffords Church Road, Duanesburg, NY 12056. A service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
