Watervliet- Marlene F. McDermott, 54, went into the Lord's arms with her family by her side after a short and strong fight with cancer on Friday, March 17, 2006. Born in Albany on October 13, 1951 she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret McDermott (Woods).
Marlene worked as a housekeeper at Albany Memorial Hospital, Albany Medical Center Hospital and Kimberly A Day Spa in Latham. She devoted her life to her two children and her grandchildren. Marlene was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed going to Foxwoods with her friends and spending quality time with her family. Marlene is predeceased her parents James and Margaret McDermott and one sister, Patricia Rios.
Survivors include her two daughters Jina Torres of Watervliet, and Michelle (Candido) Rodriguez of Albany; three grandchildren, Aaron Hall, Angel and Angelina Rodriguez; two sisters, Margaret (John) Rosenthal of Westerlo and Barbara McDermott of Rensselaer; Two brothers, James (Beverly) McDermott of East Durham and Michael (Cindy) McDermott of Albany and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and devoted friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Dr. Francis Nugent's office at New York Oncology Hematology at Albany Medical Center and to the staff of the Community Hospice for their love and support they have shown.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie.
