Marquita (Underdue) Smith was born May 2, 1961 in Schenectady, NY to Linwood and Mattie Smith Underdue. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 30, 2017 with her loving family by her side while a patient at St. Peter's Hospital.
Marquita grew up in Schenectady and attended the Schenectady Public School System. She also attended Hudson Valley Community College. She was athletic and enjoyed playing softball and volley ball. She loved music and went to New York with her younger sister, Andrea to see the Wiz. They had third row seats. Marquita was somewhat fascinated with celebrities. Marquita worked at various jobs. She worked for NYS Dept. of Taxation; IBT Industries, Troy, NY; and worked as a clerk for the Albany County Courthouse.
Marquita visited, and not after too long, joined Christ Church of Albany (f.k.a. Christian Memorial Church of God in Christ). She was very faithful and active in church. Her love for the Lord, commitment, and faith were quite evident. She served in numerous capacities; she was a member of the choir, played the bass guitar, part of the worship ministry, and was leader of the video ministry until she became ill. She met and married Donald Smith who was also a member of the church. She was a devoted wife. She loved taking rides with Donald and enjoying the beauty of nature.
Marquita leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Donald; her stepchildren Jamaal (Lyza) and Shira Smith; godson Joshua Bankston; her dad and mom, Linwood and Mattie Underdue, Schenectady, NY; her sister, Andrea (Craig) Smith of Massapequa, LI, NY and their children, Craig, Jr., Pearl and Bria; her father-in-law, Willow Graves, Sr., Albany, NY; her sisters in law, Patsy Delk, No. Brunswick, NJ; Sharon (Johnny) White, Melissa Graves, Edith Hemmingway, all of Albany, NY and brothers-in-law, James (Sheena) Smith, Charlotte, NC, Jimmy Smith, James Island, SC, Willow (Sandra) Graves, Newburgh, NY and Abraham Graves, Troy, NY; paternal aunt, Vester Jeffers, Charlotte, NC; 2 maternal aunts, Emma Tissera and Lena Richardson, Schenectady, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Christ Church of Albany church family. She was predeceased by her brother, Darren Underdue.
Calling hours will be held on February 3, 2017, at Christ Church of Albany, 381 Sheridan Avenue, Albany from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A Service will be held immediately following calling hours at 5:00 pm. Interment will be on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Parkview Cemetery, 40 Fehr Avenue, Schenectady, NY.
