SCHENECTADY - Martha Jane Cullen, 81, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at her home with loving family after a long illness.
Martha was born on February 19, 1927 in Indianapolis, IN and was the daughter of the late Walter and Evaleigh Bower Baase. She was raised in Indianapolis and grew up in a very happy home with three brothers and a sister and loving parents. She graduated from Marian College, married Richard (Dick) J. Cullen and raised six children. Dick passed away in July of 1990. Martha worked in retail and then the medical/business field until she retired in 1996. Martha was a resident of the Fayetteville/Syracuse area for over 40 years before moving to Schenectady four years ago. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, Blessed Sacrament in Syracuse and St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Schenectady. She was a Eucharistic minister.
Martha enjoyed quilting and silk floral arrangements as well as classic movies and reading. She was known for her open hospitality, compassion and strong spirituality. Martha will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving mother and grandmother. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family, giving her and the family much joy. Martha is survived by her children, Mariann and Wes Hassler of McKinleyville, CA, Richard Kevin and Roberta Cullen of Chittenango, NY, Arleen M. Cullen of Scotia, Donna and Dan Bolognino of Schenectady, William and Paula Cullen of Jamesville, NY, and Susan Cullen-Johnson and Dale Johnson of Los Angeles, CA; her grandchildren, Tim, Mark and Casey Cullen, Sarah, Amy and Christine Bolognino and Carmella McIntyre; her brothers, Joseph and Andrew Baase and many nieces and nephews.
Martha's family would like to thank her caring medical support for all their efforts and the staff at Community Hospice for their loving care and compassion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville. Inurnment will be for the family only at Fayetteville Cemetery.
Donations to honor Martha may be sent to one of her church homes or to The Community Hospice of Schenectady 1411 Union Street, Schenectady NY 12308.
