ALBANY- Martha R. Johnson, 83, of Albany, passed away on Thursday May 22, 2008 at her residence. She was born in Sparta, GA and was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth Cody Dixon. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Johnson Sr., and her siblings, Ida Williams, Charlie Dixon, James Dixon, Annie Stembridge, Ethel Clemons, Robert Dixon, Melvina Jackson, Emma Griffen and Thomas Dixon.
Martha is survived by her children, David Johnson, Pamela Stovall, Robert Johnson, Jr., Jerry Johnson, Cathy Carter and Alden Bullock; her twin sister, Mary Dixon Jones; her youngest brother, Willie Dixon; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Martha was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Albany Medical Center Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1988. She was dedicated to the health and well-being of children, using her nursing skills as well as teaching in a pre-school in California. She served faithfully at Arbor Hill Church of God in Christ for many years and in many capacities. After retirement, she committed herself to caring for the elderly as a private duty nurse.
Martha was an excellent baker and gardener, as well as a world traveler. Her children's friends also considered her "Mom".
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 at Arbor Hill Church of God in Christ, 40 Lark Street, Albany. Calling hours will precede the service from 11am to 1pm at the church. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
