NORTH GREENBUSH – Martin F. "Bud" Rooney, 85, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Albany Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Bud was born on May 12, 1927 in Albany and was the son of the late Patrick F. and Delia (Kelly) Rooney. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jane (Urban) Rooney. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He worked for Otis Elevator in Albany for over 40 years, before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, the NY Mets, family vacations to Wildwood, NJ, traveling to Florida, driving his Mercedes, taking pride in his home, family get togethers, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bud is survived by his loving sons, Frank P. (Melissa) Rooney, Patrick M. (Jennifer) Rooney, and Kevin M. (Kim) Rooney; his cherished grandchildren, Eamon, Declan, Finnbar, Kieran, Seamus, Eilis, Teaghan, Nieve, Breanna, Sierra, MaKayla and the late Tighe; his siblings, Sr. Patrick Marie Rooney, lsp, Hugh "Sonny" (Mary) Rooney, Rev. John J. "JJ" Rooney and the late Anne Rooney. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 6th floor at Albany Memorial Hospital, Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, and Dr. Keith Rebehn for their sincere and compassionate care they all gave to Bud.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie then to Our Lady of Hope Residence Chapel where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
