North Greenbush- Mary Lynn (Shaughnessy) Baldwin of North Greenbush and Averill Park passed away on Sunday August 22, 2021 at the Grand Barnwell Nursing Facility where she had been staying due to her recent illness. Friends and Family visited her often in her final days. She lived in Rensselaer County her entire life. She Lived in North Greenbush since 1970 and has spent every Summer since 1943 at the family lake house on Burden Lake. Lynn married on August 16, 1969 to Sean Michael Baldwin for 52 years.
Lynn Graduated from The College of St Rose with a BS in Education and English and received her master's in Education after studying at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Vermont. She was a devoted teacher for Averill Park High school for 35 years and the Junior Prom coordinator for 20 years. She created an annual trip to New York City for the high school Junior Class and was the Social Studies Department Chairperson for 20 years. Upon her retirement Lynn was recognized and commended by the Rensselaer County legislature for her many years of teaching by a board resolution on August 12th 1997. Lynn was recognized for her many years of work with Junior Achievement in 1994.
Lynn developed many programs over the years at Averill Park High School. She created Russian Studies curriculum, which brought in Russian college exchange students from SUNY Albany to interact with the high school students. Another program that Lynn was extremely proud of was the interactive "Never Forget" Holocaust curriculum she created which she was later recognized for by the Golub foundation in 1989. She was also recognized by the Rothenberg family and a ceremonial tree was planted in her name in Israel.
Lynn was active in many clubs and organizations throughout her life; Former Board Member of the Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway Museum, Member of Local Red Hat Society, Rensselaer County literacy volunteer for 10 years, Member of Rensselaer County Garden Club, Member of Rensselaer County historical society and a longtime member/advocate of Junior Achievement within Averill Park High School.
She as an avid reader, loved her dogs, Buddy and Willow as well as her Parrot Arthur and spent every summer since 1943 at the family lake house on Burden Lake. She Loved spending time with her two granddaughters, Lilly and Zoey Baldwin. She will also be missed by her sister Carolee Coffee .
She is survived by Sean "Brendan" Baldwin (Sara Katherine Baldwin).
A Memorial for Lynn will be will be scheduled by the family in the Spring/Summer of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the new community center in Averill Park New York, Skyhigh Adventure Center Inc. located at 322 Methodist Farm Road Averill Park NY 12018.
