COLONIE Mary Louise (Lou) Baron, 88, passed away peacefully with her family on May 16, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Alburgh Vermont, she was the daughter of Itha and Richard Aubin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 2008 after a blissful 59 years. Don was the love of her life, having met him on a blind date in 1946. After a three-year courtship, they were married. Mary Lou received her nursing degree from Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester, Vermont where she worked until 1953. The family then moved to Albany NY, where Mary Lou continued her nursing career at St. Peter's hospital. She retired from full-time nursing in 1974, but kept active many years after that by volunteering as a nurse for the American Red Cross.
Lou enjoyed taking long rides, particularly during the fall foliage season, traveling with family, and time with her siblings and their families on Lake Champlain. She was an avid Yankee fan, rarely missing a game. A devoted mom, she also was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts when her sons were young. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and making teddy bears for family members. Known as "Grams" to them, she was adored by her grandchildren. She loved gathering family together for Saturday, Sunday, and holiday dinners at her home. There was always room for one more in her home or at her table, as she made her home a warm and welcoming place.
Lou is survived by her four children, Christopher (partner Cathy), Jonathan (Betsy), Rebecca (Ray Iveson), and Matthew (Deborah); nine grandchildren, Madalyn, Tara, Kennedy, Tyler, Zachary, Nick, Eric, Luke, Amanda, and her brother, Leon (Shirley) Aubin. The family would like to thank the staff of St Peter's Hospital Hospice Inn for their thoughtful care during Lou's last days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday morning at 9:00 at St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will follow in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Wounded Warriors Project at STRIDE, Inc., PO Box 778, Rensselaer, NY 12144, or St. Clare's Church, 1947 Central Avenue, Albany, NY 12205 would be appreciated.
