ALBANY- Mary Elizabeth Ebel Hitchcock died Friday October 28, 2005 after a brief illness. Betsy was born on June 25, 1936 in Albany, the daughter of William J. and Josephine Antoinette Ebel. A graduate of Vincentian Institute, she worked for the New York Telephone Company before her marriage Thomas G. Hitchcock Sr, who predeceased her on March 28, 1997.
Betsy enjoyed gardening, taking long walks with her grandchildren and bargain hunting at garage sales. She was beloved by her neighbors and everyone she came into contact with. Over the years, she taught many neighborhood children how to play solitaire. She was a faithful communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Betsy is the loving mother of Thomas (Gilda-Lee), William (Linda) and Lauri all of Albany. Dear sister of William Ebel of Ohio, Linda Dollar and Richard Ebel of Albany. She was the proud grandmother of Sarah, Billy, Kendra and Tommy. She is also survived by many nieces nephews and cousins. Betsy's family would like to thank the staff of 4 McAuley at St. Peters Hospital for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:30 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave) then to Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
