Mary C. Becker

Mary Catherine Becker, 93, passed away with her family by her side on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in St. Peter's Hospice in Albany, NY.
Mary was born on September 18, 1919 to Elbert and Laura Miller in Peru, Indiana. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, as well as by her beloved husband, Dr. Milford Becker.

Mary and Milford lovingly raised and encouraged four children throughout their lives: Dr. David Becker of Littleton, CO; Carol Becker (Marshall Hallett) of Manchester, MO; Linda Becker (John Wolcott) of Albany, NY; and Cathy Becker Knightes of Guilderland, NY. Additionally, they deeply loved their grandchildren: Heather (Will) Rutherford and Mark (Lyndsie) Jobson, Zoe and Andy Becker, Danny and Jamie Knightes; and their great-grandchildren Sebastian and Christian Jobson.

Early in her life Mary worked as a nurse. She was a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scouts den mother. She volunteered at Albany Medical Center Hospital for 30 years. She sang in the choirs of Altamont Reformed Church and McKownville United Methodist Church. She served as a deacon on the Consistory of Altamont Reformed Church. She was an expert seamstress and quilter, created wonderful crafts, and was a gifted cook and baker. She loved pets and music, and was a beautiful gardener, knowing by name all of the plants and flowers she tended.

She will be greatly missed. She rests now in the arms of Jesus.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the Altamont Reformed Church, 129 Lincoln Avenue, Altamont, NY. There will be a gathering with family immediately following the service at the church. Burial will be private at a later date at the Prospect Hill Cemetery.
