Albany – Mary Catherine Carney, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar, NY. She was the beloved wife of James J. Carney Sr.
Mary Catherine was born on November 5, 1931, in Newport RI to John Clinton and Mary Bestoso Duffy and grew up in her beloved Jamestown, RI. She was a lifelong homemaker who took loving care of her children, grandchildren and many of her nieces, nephews and the children of family & friends. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Her house was filled with plants all year long and her yard was filled with flowers in the summertime.
In addition to her husband Jim, Mary Catherine is survived by her children David Carney (Gina), Mary Stanton, James Carney Jr (Lisa) and Megan Oberting (Edward). Her grandchildren, Caleb Carney (Zara), Kyle Carney, Jeanette Phelan (Andrew), Connor Lawrence, Mackenzie Lawrence, Shane Carney, Garrett Carney and great granddaughter Amalia Carney.
She is also survived by her sister Christina Astriab (John), brother Christopher Duffy, nieces Duffy Astriab, Michol Merriman (Michael), Chiara Astriab, and nephew John Clinton Duffy as well as great niece Mallory Merriman. She is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers Robert and David Duffy, her mother-in-law Shirley Carney and several in-laws and nieces.
The family would like to thank Nurse Tammy and the staff of Good Samaritan for their loving care of our mother during the last few weeks of her life.
Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday, July 16, at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
