ALBANY – Mary E. Murray, 80, formerly of Boston, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Agnes Heffernan.
Mary worked for the New York State O.M.R.D.D. as an Assistant Director of Hillcrest Community Residence and retired after 15 years of service. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, knitting, shopping and traveling. She especially loved spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren play sports and other activities.
Mary was predeceased by her former husband of 20 years, John C. Murray in 1999, and sisters Mona Heffernan and Patricia Tilley.
She is survived by her children, Colleen (Wyatt Craig) Murray of East Berne, Carl (Tammy) Murray of Latham, Joseph Murray of Albany, and Kathleen (Michael VanRavensway) Murray of Albany; siblings Teresa Trott of Braintree, MA, Barbara Rose of New Hampshire, and Myles Heffernan of Marlborough, MA; grandchildren Alicia and Jason Murray-Craig, Simon, Emma, Eilish, and Sean Murray; sister-in-law Peggy (Joe) Greco, and brother-in-law, Dennis Dempster. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment of ashes will be on Friday at 2:00 pm in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049, in Mary's name.
