Latham- Mary Ellen (Tucker) Kenney born to the late Thelma Elizabeth (Jackson) Tucker and James Edward Tucker on January 21, 1937 at St. Vincent's Hospital on Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush.
Mary Ellen graduated in 1954 from Port Richmond High School, and went on to earn her degree from Drake Business School for Secretarial Studies. She went on to work for Bell Atlantic as a telephone operator, and then in 1970 moved to Saratoga Springs, NY where she worked as a secretary at Skidmore College. In 1974 she returned to Bell Atlantic and retired in 1978 from AT&T.
While living on Staten Island, NY, Mary Ellen was an active member of St. Phillips Baptist Church where she nurtured her passion of music as a singer, choir director, and pianist. She was also one of the founding members of the gospel quartet "Guiding Lights".
In 1968 Mary Ellen met and married James T. Kenney, Sr. They later settled in Latham, NY where they raised their three children David, James, and Yvonne, and she became a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Mary Ellen is survived by her husband, James T. Kenney, Sr., her children David Kenney, Medford, NY; James T. Kenney, Jr. (Mary Jo), Oakdale, CT; Dolores Yvonne Kenney, New York, NY; four grandchildren David, Tamara, Aaron, Javier, eight great-grandchildren; her brother Richard Charles Tucker (Marilyn), Montclair, NJ; her sister Sajdah Umrani-Mansur (AdbdulWaahid), Staten Island, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Sister of the late Robert Leon Tucker.
