Mary Lou Falco

October 19, 1948 — July 23, 2022

LATHAM - Mary Lou (Lulu), 73 of Latham, was escorted into heaven on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from the Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness, to be with her parents and those who passed before her.

Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Louise (Frese) Falco. She graduated from Shaker High in 1966, and upon completion of her degree from HVCC, she pursued a career as an x-ray technician at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for her entire career. Mary Lou was one of a few pioneer women who crossed over to the more advanced CT Scan Division, one of the first in the area. Mary Lou loved to be active, and her hobbies were her main stay. Her love of animals showed as she proudly served as Vice President for the Troy Kennel Club and was a Board Director for the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Northeastern NY. She was most proud of her position as Major and Finance Officer with the Civil Air Patrol Mid-Eastern Group, along with being an active member with the Ninety-Nines: International Organization of Women Pilots. Her local division of the CAP will have a color guard presence at her memorial.

Mary Lou is survived by her brother, Salvatore Sgarlata, from Guilderland; her sister, Patricia (Brad) Hicks of Latham; her nieces, Jennifer (David) Henderson and God daughter, Nicole (Anthony) Hicks, both of Latham, along with nephew, Scott (Anastasia) Hicks of Ballston Lake. She was also a wonderful aunt to several grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as to her God daughter, Courtney. She leaves behind one special aunt, wonderful cousins and dear friends, who will miss her very much.

The family would like to especially thank cousin, Cora Williams, and dear friend & "big sister," Aileen Svec, for guiding them through this difficult journey.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Saturday, August 6, from 10 to 11:30 am at the New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. A memorial service will begin at 11:30 am at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Geoffrey D. Burke from Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Eastern Group of the Civil Air Patrol, c/o Linda Sheridan, 3063 Sunset Lane, Schenectady, NY 12303 or to a charity of your choice in Mary Lou's name. Interment will be in Memory Gardens at the convenience of the family.
