SCHENECTADY - Mary Grassia, 102, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023 at the Portside at Grand Dunes in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Mary was born on June 5, 1921 in Bronx, NY and was the daughter of the late Alfio and Grace (Failla) Zimmitti. She worked as a seamstress for many years before retiring. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, sewing, cooking - especially Sunday lasagna, and the NY Yankees.
Mary is survived by her children, Vincent (Anita) Grassia, Sandra Gizzi and John (Judi) Grassia; her grandchildren, Stephen (Gina) Grassia, Cainen Gray, Vincent (Denine) Crassia, Alex Gizzi, Gina (Ryan) McDermott, Maria Grassia, Krista (Marcus) Rotondi and John Grassia; 11 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and her sister Zina Zimmitti. She was predeceased by her husband, John M. Grassia Sr. and her siblings, Joseph Zimmitti and Laura Herron.
A calling hour will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21st, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 21st, at St. Luke's Church, 1241 State Street, Schenectady, with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie.
