Mary D. Gross, 98, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center with her loving family by her side. Mary was the daughter of the late John Justin Dennehy Jr., Zita (Miller) Dennehy and her step-mother Alice A. (Clemens) Dennehy. Mary was the devoted wife to the late John W. Gross for 59 years until his passing in 2010.
She was at her best spending time at gatherings with friends, neighbors, and family.
She enjoyed painting, travel, knitting, bowling and helping others as a Volunteer Ambassador at the Albany Airport.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and camping.
She was proud of her 16 years working for NYS Department of Environmental Conservation whose mission was to champion the preservation of the outdoors for future generations.
Upon retirement, John and Mary moved to a 10 acre ranch in the Helderberg mountains where, for 13 years, they hosted gatherings, enjoyed the scenic views, wildlife sightings, and going hiking, snowshoeing, or cross country skiing on their property.
Mary is survived by her children, John W. Gross, Jr., James Gross (Lynne Casper), and Thomas Gross.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers John Dennehy Jr., James Dennehy, and William Dennehy.
