COLONIE – Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Hill, 81, died Saturday, November 4, 2006 at St. Peter's Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born on July 21, 1925, in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Philomena Marano. A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Betty was a homemaker for many years before her employment with the New York State Teachers' Retirement System where she worked as a stenographer until her retirement. A devoted mother and wonderful cook, she loved hosting dinners for her family, who were her pride and joy. She was a devout catholic and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Colonie. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, John "Schaffer" Hill; her four children, Joseph (Lisa) of Clifton Park, John of Green Island, Brian (Sandra) of Clifton Park and Mary Beth Boncaro of Watervliet; her cherished grandchildren, Maureen Hill of Latham and Matthew Hill of Clifton Park; her siblings, Sally Consula of Troy, Helen Rogers of Nashville, TN and Frank Marano of Lansingburgh. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her sister, Monawell Carpenter and two brothers, George and Joseph. The family wishes to thank St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Community Hospice staff members, Pat Davis, Mary Kay McGraw and Barb Petrillo for the care and compassion they showed to Betty during her final days.
Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 8:45 at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to Our Lady of Mercy Church at 9:30 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
