COLONIE – Mary Jane Powell, 69, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Queens, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Emma Siegling.
Mary Jane was a teacher with St. James Institute in Albany for twenty years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, cooking and being with her family. She also liked to spend time at Saratoga Lake. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady. Her deep faith saw her through her struggle with cancer.
Mary Jane is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Ed Powell; daughters Hilary Powell, Stacey Kipp and Christine (Peter) Lilholt; sister Judith (Bob) Baumeister; grandchildren Sarah and Michael Lilholt, and Jessica and Justin Kipp; niece Amie (Reid) Caster and nephews Rob and John (Karen) Baumeister; grandnephew and grandniece Connor and Megan.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am Zion Lutheran Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial Contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Flower Fund, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12308 in Mary Jane's name.
