Mary Jean Laraway

ALBANY - Mary Jean (Marshall) Laraway passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2013 after a long struggle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Grady) Marshall of Albany. Born and raised in Albany, she graduated from Vincentian Institute and attended the College of Saint Rose.
Mary Jean launched a long career in banking at Albany Savings Bank (ASB). Valued for her experience and hard work, she advanced to the position of Vice-President of Corporate Affairs at ASB. She was a key figure in assisting customers and staff in the mergers with CharterOne and Citizens Bank.
Mary Jean loved the ocean, and moved to Portsmouth RI after retirement. She directed her energy into her new community by teaching adult literacy classes. She also loved music and served on the Board of Common Fence Music.

Mary Jean leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her daughter Jean Laraway, son Chris (Kate) Laraway, grandchildren Shayla, Shaun, and Kensi. Also survived by sisters June Marshall Howard, Virginia (Richard) Willigan, Patrice Marshall Spingarn, and brothers Richard Marshall and William Marshall. and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jean is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Ellizabeth; sister Carole (Marshall) White and brother Joseph T Marshall.

A celebration of Mary Jean's life will be held on Sunday November 17 from 1pm to 3pm with a service at 3pm at New-Comer Cannon funeral home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr John Balint Fund at the Albany Medical Center Foundation are appreciated, at 43 New Scotland Avenue, Mail code 119, Albany NY 12208 in her memory.
