Albany – Mary Joan (O'Brien) Wolff of Altamont died Thursday October 16, 2008 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Born in Albany on March 18, 1950 she was the daughter of the late Austin Raymond O'Brien and Joan Elizabeth (Donohue ) O'Brien. Mary attended the Academy of Holy Names and earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the College of Saint Rose. Mary worked for the New York State Teacher's Retirement System for more than twenty years. Since her retirement she loved traveling to Cape Cod with Phillip, their favorite destination being Chatham. Mary also enjoyed learning to play the organ, gardening and volunteering on behalf of her church at the Altamont Fair. This past year, she and Phillip went on a pilgrimage to Yankee Stadium to see Pope Benedict XVI, an experience that Mary treasured.
In addition to her devoted husband, Phillip Wolff, Mary is survived by her sisters and brother, Kathleen (Gene) Wunderlich, Patricia (Robert) Dalbec, Maura O'Brien and Austin O'Brien and her beloved niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:30am Monday from New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155 south of Central Ave.) then to St. Lucy's Church 122 Grand St., Altamont where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30am. Calling hours will be Sunday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Lucy's Church.
